Information about Gulfstream G550
The Gulfstream G550 is a modern flagship of the famous family of business jets produced by the North American company Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation (G550 is the largest aircraft produced by the company). Gulfstream G550 in production since 2003. From its predecessor, the Gulfstream V, the Gulfstream G550 is distinguished by an elongated cabin and radically improved on-board equipment. It seems small in the photo, but it is surprisingly close with its dimensions – the wingspan is almost like that of the Boeing 737. The G550 gains height almost like a fighter, and in tanks it carries a fuel weight equal to the weight of the aircraft itself. The ability to be in the air for 13-14 hours provides a non-stop flight from Moscow to Los Angeles. Flying at an altitude of 15,500 meters (550th echelon), where there are no other aircraft, taking into account the cruising speed (904 km / h) gives a noticeable gain in time. The aircraft is equipped with Rolls-Royce BR710 C4-11 turbofan engines, PlaneView (R) cabs and Honeywell Primus Epic avionics kit.
The Gulfstream G550 is certified for 19 passengers, but such dense lineups are not found in practice. The usual passenger capacity of the G550 is 12-14 people, which are placed with perfect comfort, despite the relatively narrow fuselage. The cabin has 3 sections for accommodating passengers. Almost the same space is reserved for office space, which occupy the crew rest room, one or two bathrooms and a very spacious kitchen in the front or rear of the cabin. Each pair of seats, located opposite, is transformed into a full bed. A later modification of the Gulfstream G500 has a more spacious cabin, due to the lack of a crew rest room. The passengers feel well-being provided not only with comfortable cabin equipment, but also with a unique ventilation system. At the maximum flight altitude inside the pressurized cabin, pressure is maintained corresponding to an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level.
The G550 series was officially launched in Orlando (Florida) on September 9, 2002. For the first time in history, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a type certificate and a G550 production license on the same day — August 14, 2003. The type certificate indicates that the aircraft was approved by the FAA, and the production license confirms that the production process manufacturer meets the standards and requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration.
The first G550 was delivered to the customer on September 17, 2003. The Gulfstream G550 development team won the 2003 Robert J. Collier award, awarded by the National Aviation Association for an outstanding technological breakthrough in the aerospace industry. In the USA, the Robert J. Collier award is the most prestigious for this field.
At present, the G550 / G500 fleet in operation has 172 aircraft and boasts an annual time between failures of 99.87%. In addition, the G550 set about 40 speed records. The most noteworthy is the non-stop flight from Seoul (South Korea) to Orlando (Florida), which took place on October 3, 2003. The distance between the cities of 7301 nautical miles, G550 covered 14.5 hours. The flight was organized only two weeks after the aircraft was commissioned. Recently, the G550 and G500 fleet left behind a mark of 200,000 flight hours.
The G550 was the first civilian aircraft to receive an FAA type certificate, which includes the EVS Advanced Vision System as standard aircraft equipment. Gulfstream EVS projects actual, real images taken with an infrared camera on the nose of the aircraft onto a collimator HUD display.
It was the G550 that was first equipped with the PlaneView cabin, which includes a display system and an integrated Honeywell Primus Epic on-board equipment system. The flight deck of the PlaneView was created by the joint efforts of engineers and pilots to increase situational awareness and flight safety, while simultaneously removing some of the load from the pilots. Flight information of paramount importance is displayed on 14-inch LCD monitors in a format that can be easily decoded.
In January 2008, Gulfstream became the first Part 25 Certified Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), whose advanced vision system was licensed by the FAA. Gulfstream SV-PFD displays three-dimensional color elevation models based on data from the Honywell Enhanced Dangerous Collision Avoidance System (EGPWS). At the same time, the FAA has certified the second-generation EVS II advanced vision system developed by Gulfstream. Certificates SV-PFD and EVS II allow you to install these systems on the Gulfstream G550, G500, G450 and G350.
