Information about Embraer ERJ135

In 1997, the management of EMBRAER decided to make more extensive use of the success gained through the ERJ 145 program, as a result of which the lineup of this family was supplemented by a regional airliner with a shortened fuselage with 37 seats. Officially, the EMBRAER ERJ 135 project was launched in September 1997, two prototypes were reworked pre-production ERJ 145. The new vehicle made its first flight on July 4, 1998, and its launch customer was Continental Express, which received its first production car in July 1999 (at that time, EMBRAER received firm orders and options for 139 such aircraft).

The ERJ 135 has a 90% compatibility with the ERJ 145 – similar wing, tail, cockpit and main systems. The main difference is the fuselage shortened by 3.53 m. The layout of the seats in the cabin saved (2 +1). The affinity of both machines makes it possible to achieve simplified training of flight personnel and maintenance, as well as lower operating costs.

EMBRAER also attempted to bring to the market an intermediate option – a 44-seat ERJ 140 (first flight July 27, 2000), but the unfortunate situation on the international air transport market, caused by the terrorist attacks in the United States, prevented success in this direction. More fortunate was the fate of the Legacy 600 business jet, designed for the transportation of 8 passengers, created on the basis of ERJ 135. The plane turned out to be in demand among civilian and military customers.
