Information about Cessna Citation Longitude
At the main European salon of business aviation EVACE 2012, held in Geneva (Switzerland), Cessna presented a new program. Citation Longitude – another attempt by the American manufacturer to take a position in the super midsize class (super middle) three years after the abandonment of the Columbus program.
In order to reduce the cost of research and development work, the developers gave the Longitude flight performance, almost the same as the Columbus, but it will inherit its dimensions from the Citation Latitude – a new model, presented only six months ago. Thus, his salon will be 15 cm narrower and 18 cm shorter than his predecessor was supposed to have.
Cessna set a goal to obtain a certificate of the type of the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and deliver the first aircraft to customers in the fourth quarter of 2017, that is, three and a half years later than Columbus should have entered service. Some of the design features of the latter were adapted for the new model – including large T-shaped tail, moderate sweep of the wing, etc. However, the systems and equipment will be simpler than expected to be installed on the Columbus.
The Honeywell HTF7700L turbofan engines are selected as the power plant. The business jet, equipped with the Garmin G5000 avionics complex, is designed to carry up to 12 passes. at 6482 km.
Thanks to the new wing design and small tips (winglets), the aircraft will be able to reach a cruising speed of 0.82M, that is, in absolute terms, it will be 11 knots faster than the Columbus. Both the wing and the fuselage will still be made of aluminum alloys. The cabin (183 cm high (with a recessed passage), 195 cm wide) is designed to accommodate eight passengers.
On October 10, 2016, Cessna Aircraft (part of the Textron group) began flight tests of the new business jet of the super middle class Citation Longitude. The first test flight was made a month and a half after the engines were started on the plane.
In March 2017, the US began mass production of Citation Longitude, developed by Cessna Aircraft (part of Textron Corporation). Machines collected at the plant in Wichita (pc. Kansas, USA). There are four aircraft in operation, according to Textron.
Citation Longitude certification is expected at the end of 2017. Airplanes are now in the air. The flight program was launched in October last year. The first two prototypes completed 125 flights and flew 250 hours. Recently, on March 20, a third prototype joined the air tests. It will test the avionics and check the quality of the finishing systems. Also, it will record flight data for the flight simulator.
The cost of the aircraft is $ 23.9 million. Since 2017 discounts for this aircraft will not be provided. The main competitors of the Longitude are the Bombardier Challenger 605 and Dassault Falcon 2000LX, as well as the Gulfstream G450.
