Information about Cessna Citation Latitude

The Citation Latitude business jet (Cessna Model 680A) is the most recent proof of a rebirth after Textron Aviation’s recession, which has joined the battle for its historic market share in business aviation. This is the first Cessna aircraft in the super middle class, whose cabin in cross section is almost the same as the Hawker 4000 model. Instead of using composite materials, Cessna developed a new aluminum alloy fuselage, combining it with wings, engines and main systems from the project CE-680 Sovereign +.

The first flight of the aircraft took place on February 18, 2014; since then, two experimental aircraft have performed over 600 flights and have flown a total of 1,550 hours.

The effectiveness of the constructive power circuit of the airframe is the strength of this machine. Own mass of the fuselage of the super middle class aircraft is only 160 kg more compared to the Sovereign + model. At the same time, the cockpit charge increased to 0.66 atm, which corresponds to an altitude of 1800 m when flying at FL450 flight level (maximum cruising altitude of the aircraft).

A small net weight allows a business jet to transport up to five people with a full fueling, while the parking and take-off weight increases by only 11 kg. Citation Latitude can fly to the same airports as Sovereign + by using the same propulsion system and wing.

Operators can plan most flights based on flight speeds of 400 knots per hour. This is 40 knots less than the main competitor of Embraer Legacy 450, but Latitude can take off and land on shorter runways. Thus, most of the small air ports of business aviation, which are located near major business centers, are open to him.
In cross section, the Latitude is wider than the salons of all its predecessors from the Citation family and is one of the most spacious in its class. In the main section there are six individual chairs, in the front section there is a double sofa.

As on all models of the Citation family, the main glider of the Latitude business jet is an aluminum semi-monocoque with cladding panels, ribs, frames and spars that are joined by rivets, bolts or glue. There is an insignificant use of composite materials, for example, in the design of the radar radome, the fairings, and the design of the rear service hatch.
The T-shaped tail unit is one of the drawbacks of this aircraft, but the power circuit of the tail unit is quite effective and allows for a wide range of alignments at different loads. The new spring-loaded passenger compartment door provides for manual opening, as well as automatic and manual closing. Each step has a LED backlight. The bottom step fits snugly to the ground to facilitate landing.

New design features of the fuselage improved aerodynamics of the nose, which led to a decrease in aerodynamic drag and a decrease in the noise level in the cabin. The windshield has a hydrophobic coating, eliminating the need to use a system for removing moisture from the surface of the glass.

No one super middle class business jet with traditional controls has such responsive handling. And no business jet has such take-off characteristics. Of course, Latitude is not a leader in cruising speed, payload and range with full tanks, but its cost, which is $ 16.25 million, makes the aircraft a profitable acquisition for a number of parameters.

The Garmin G5000 is the best set of avionics in the tested business jets of this class. Accuracy and smoothness of the automatic thrust machine – above all praise. The system of synthetic vision and display of 3D traffic on the main display is another significant plus. The G5000 represents a new generation of avionics, which is built on graphical interfaces used in consumer electronics. And the pilots will appreciate these features, ensuring ease of use and reducing the load on the flight crew.
