Information about Airbus A321

The A321 is a medium-haul passenger aircraft developed by the Western European consortium Airbus. The A321 aircraft, which was an A320 aircraft extended by 7 meters, was announced by the consortium in April 1988, and in May 1989, the consortium began searching for customers. Officially, the A321-100 aircraft program began at the end of November 1989. The plant of the German company DASA in Hamburg was chosen as the final assembly site for the aircraft; before that, all the aircraft of the Airbus Industry consortium assembled at an aircraft complex in Toulouse (France).

The first prototype A321-100 aircraft with V2500 engines made the first flight on March 11, 1993, and in May made the first flight with the CFM56 engines. Aircraft with a turbofan V2500 received a certificate in mid-December 1994, and in January 1995, Lufthansa received the first aircraft. In February 1994, certification of an aircraft with CFM56 engines was completed; its deliveries began in March 1994. Airplanes with V2500 engines are designated A321-130, and with CFM56 engines they are designated A321-110. In 1994, DASA, which is a member of the Airbus Industry consortium, proposed to proceed with the development of the A321-200 version with increased take-off weight and longer range.

The aircraft is equipped with the EFIS digital avionics complex, similar to the A320 aircraft complex. Serially produced since 1993. By April 1997, 199 had been sold and more than 60 aircraft of all modifications delivered.
